Well, are you here because you want to or you think that you should be?
Another social situation or is it something that you need?
Yeah I know, but that's not why I'm here today.
Now you're lookin' at me and I'm lookin' at you and between both of us we don't even have a clue.
Yeah I know but it's not why I'm here today.
Nothing is perfect and you're not alone, step it up with bass, drums, a guitarand a microphone (even a piano), let's hear what you have to say.
Sing about your love or hate, the people that you meet, what is happening inside of you, what happens on the street.
We might just relate, whoever knows?
When the feeling hits you've got to let it all go.
You'll be dead longer than you're alive.
But if you look, if you look there's a light on.
You'll be dead longer than you're alive.
Take your time, realise that your sight's gone.
We've had it so good, for oh so long that we have become to expect it as thenorm. Maybe it's time for our perspectives to change.
The slightest thing goes wrong you wanna run, run, run. You think "That's it, it's over" and you're done, done, done.
Well if it's what's important, it's what's important to you and you only have to answer to yourself when this is all gone.
You'll be dead longer than you're alive.
But if you look, if you look there's a light on.
You'll be dead longer than you're alive.
Take your time, realise that your sight's gone.
Where did the time go?
Who left the light on?
Get Rich Or Try Dyin’
I don’t know where our innocence could go. I don’t know how we could lose control.
Slow it down, yeah I don’t think so. Red-ass will only hurt your knees and Tip The Can will make it hard to breathe.
Speed it up, yeah now we’re talking. It’s you against infinity when 2 + 2 can = 3.
So get rich or just try dyin’. Wipe your tears but keep on cryin’. Tell the truth but keep on lyin’. So get rich or just try dyin’.
And I don’t know where our innocence could go. And I don’t know how our dreams could slip so low, does it show?
Yous' look like saps, always talkin’ about the way we hang out. Ring ‘em up, give Aido a shout.
If it’s Dungeon, bagsey King! Yous' look like dopes, talkin’ about the way we get on.
Fuck it up and laugh and move on. One by one we’ll learn to sing:
So get rich or just try dyin’. Wipe your tears but keep on cryin’. Tell the truth but keep on lyin’. So get rich or just try dyin’.
And I don’t know where our innocence could go. And I don’t know how our dreams could slip so low, does it show?.
So laugh ‘till it hurts and cry ‘till it’s better. Go outside anywhere and fuck the weather.
Scream ‘till it stops, ‘till your heart starts beating. Shout it out, last one to the wall is in.
Fuck it up, laugh and move on.
Hating Every Minute
Do intangible waves offer me escape?
I wanna know what it's like on the edge of a knife.
'Cos yesterdays stories have no promises of glory.
I just wanna escape for a minute or two,
So what the fuck am I suppose to do?
Yesterday evening, at the Gangland right across from the (49)bus, another man was put on the ground.
They pulled the trigger, we walk past without a sound.
They fire at will, we kiss as they kill.
We say we do as we want then sit perfectly still.
I guess you could say that I'll never learn, but you won't teach me with third degree burns.
You say "I don't care anymore, this is nothing I ain't heard before"
We sing these songs like they're our own.
It's nothing new, oh yes we know.
They're just the tales from our front door.
When our sugar coated life's a bore.
(Seems like you can even fault a privileged life these days, whatever next?)
Then I was asked what did I learn?
I think I summed it up in these 4 words:
I hated every minute.
I'm cringing while I'm singing.
Maybe no-one will notice and I'll get through this.
Maybe they'll think it's mine that I'm literally inflamed with passion that I contorted into rhyme.
Butthen "THIS JUST IN: The kids are so complacent and they don't even know it yet so they're lashing out so aimlessly at things that aren't even athreat!"
You say "I don't care anymore, I've left my interest at the door"
We sing these songs like they're our own.
It's nothing new, oh yes we know.
They're just the tales from our front door.
When our sugar coated life's a bore.
Exchequer Religion
Save me? You should save yourself.
Do you question your conscience when you're wrestling with wealth?
We know there's only one way for us to go.
A group of accountants make up a religion and it turns out batman is charging a commission.
We know there's only one way for us to go.
Faith is based on something you can't prove,
So what happens when you lose?
A group of accountants make up a religion and it turns out these saviours are charging a commission.
We know there's only one way for us to go.
Faith is based on something you can't prove,
So what happens when you lose?
Dancefloor
Get up and onto your feet if you’ve got something to dance for, ‘cause we’ve got one more chance to find it.
Get up and onto your feet if you’ve got something to dance for, ‘cause we’ve got one more chance to find it.
We move in time with the full weight of the sound. The clocks could stop but it wouldn’t matter now.
And we’ve got one more chance to find it,we’ve got one more chance to find it.
It’s clear, it’s pure, it’spiercing through your ear. You can’t escape the beat, the reason why you’re here.
And we’ve got one more chance to find it, we’ve got one more chance to find it.
Through the hum and the drone you’re not out there on your own, you’re not out there on your own.
Through the blinding of lights you’re just lost in the night, you’re just lost in the night.
I’m in my seat and that’s just fine by me. I came, I saw, no it’s not apathy.
And we’ve got one more chance to find it, we’ve got one more chance to find it. Last notes ring out and my ears start to ring.
Don’t stop now, don’t stop or the silence it will deafen me.
And we’ve got one more chance to find it, we’ve got one more chance to find it.
Of all the ways we could go. Of all the things that we know. This is the one that we chose.
This is the one that we chose. Of all the ways we could go. Of all the things that we know. This is the one that we chose. This is the one that we chose.
Peace Together
Well if you feel the need to take your life,
Then I say give it back,
'Cause I'm sure I could find someone that needs one, more than you.
I don't know what to do or what it is you're going through.
I want to hear you say: I'll leave it another day.
And I'll never look away again.
I've tried and it's useless, you just won't understand,
So I'll never look away again.
And I never know what to do or what it is you're going through,
The first pitfall is to pretend that I understand.
I don't know what to do or what it is you're going through.
I want to hear you say: I'll leave it another day.
And I'll never look away again.
I've tried and it's useless, you just won't understand,
So I'll never look away again.
Piece Apart
Remember when I said I'd never look away again?
Well there's no chance left, it's dead, well it's come to an end.
What happened to you, it won't happen to me,
The guilt that serves as blackmail won't be forgotten easily.
You can't cut, cut, cut it away.
You call it self-harm but you're not just hurting yourself,
You hurt the mental health of everyone else.
You slit your arms, you slit your sides,
You slit your wrist and thighs,
You say it makes you feel better but they're only bleeding lies.
I want peace of mind, you want peace inside.
No matter how we look at it, it's not something everyone can possess.
I can walk away saying I could have done nothing else.
You can't cut, cut, cut it away.
Along The Way
Sunburst come and quench my thirst but you better reach my face, my face first
Born into a world that seems so different but now it all looks the same
And I don't know what to do, But I know I'm just the same as you.
We're all reaching for the same thing anyway it's not gonna happen today. We had it all and we threw it away.
Every minute, everyday, I could want to give it in, pick it up, pack it up, let's go. Let's have some fun along the way.
It's not a change of situation it's a change of mind, why don't you leave your future behind?
Born into a world that seems so different, now it all looks the same.
Rot & Decay
We can say, what we want to say.
Sometimes it seems like our imagination is the only thing in our way.
We can do, what we decide,
Well tonight the stars are shining bright so by example we have nothing to hide.
You can change the world,
But the world will always win,
And I can't change with you.
We're over populated and we're never alone,
Somehow I'm singing to an empty room.
As I rot, rot and decay.
As I rot, rot and decay.
We're all going to.
We can do, what we decide,
Well tonight the stars are shining bright so by example we have nothing to hide.
You can change the world,
But the world will always win,
And I can't change with you.
We're over populated and we're never alone,
Somehow I'm singing to an empty room.
As I rot, rot and decay.
As we rot, rot and decay.
It's the only promise ever kept.
As I rot, rot and decay.
As we rot, rot and decay
No-one's Listening
And now we know,
No-one's listening.
And now we know,
No-one cares.
I'm not much of a wordsmith,
I don't craft iron into beauty.
Like a witness to a masterpiece,
I recant what I see.
I leave it cold hard and heavy and as precious as it's ever going to be.
And now we know,
No-one's listening.
And now we know,
No-one cares.
She didn't know this,
But she was an artist,
She painted everyday of her life.
Every step that she took was a sculpture waiting to be realised,
Every movement she made was a mural of the person she wanted to be.
And now we know,
No-one's listening.
And now we know,
No-one cares.
The Mirror Stage
It’s us, and them. It’s the way it’s always been.
It’s the primary binary of society.
It’s scream or sing. Now I’m trapped in this bottle, it was supposed to be lightning.
I may as well, I don’t completely understand this myself.
It’s this or it, there once came a time when you looked into the mirror as a kid,
The world began; it began to split in two.
And now you define others based on how they differ from you.
It’s so true. It’s so innate, so sick.
Regardless of the grain, there’s the feeling that you’re not the same.
It’s not yet clear to you, that’s how others function too.
I behave in such a way, that my quiet confidence won’t let me stray.
From the feeling that I’m not the norm, from the feeling that I am informed.
I hope we see each other's face, when we both end up in the same place.
My face will surely read: this isn’t how it was supposed to be.
It’s not what was promised to me.
It’s us, and them. That’s what they let me think.
It’s us, and them. It stung to realise that’s what everyone was thinking too.
Littlefoot
Littlefoot you’re not that strong. You’ve been down, down for far too long. You were our friend. But friends can be wrong. Littlefoot you’re not that strong.
Through all kinds of weather, through bad days and thick and thin. Though your new friends are so much better, we’ll be at the door to let you in.
Littlefoot you’re not that strong. We’ve all sung your praise in half-heard songs. We’re your friends, you made us feel were wrong. Littlefoot you’re not that strong.
Through all kinds of weather, through bad days and thick and thin. Though your new friends are so much better, we’ll be at the door to let you in.
I Rarely Relate
What do you do when you're feeling numb and emotionally deaf and dumb?
Striving for direction and mutual affection.
You tried so hard but now your heart is floating like a stone.
And someone told me it's not having the best of anything it's doing the best with anything that you have. Try telling that to an introspective sociopath, who's substituting unity for a heard mentality.
But you've already fallen asleep.
I trip on cobblestones, I'm none too graceful.
But so much worse could happen on a night like this so I guess I'm grateful.
While the kids dress bright with dim intentions, the price of your life could be a worldly possession.
And son they've sold you a life since the first day you're alive, I couldn't tell you it's a lie you had to see it with your own eyes. When I was growing up the world was in a different state, survival's the same game, otherwise I rarely relate.
It's the same old song.
I've heard too long.
And it goes:
"I'm not happy on my own, so I gave up a little too easy this time."
And you're screaming so loud till your lungs hit the ceiling, try it again, try it once more with feeling, try it over, try it over, try it over again.
I know it may seem like I'm babbling but in my head it makes such sense, I'm trying to navigate my way through the jungle of existence. There's no maps or trails to speak of and we burned the history books, we'll endup where we started until we start lookin' up.
It's the same old song.
I've heard too long.
And it goes:
"I'm not happy on my own, so I gave up a little too easy this time."
There are no cryptic walls between us, there are no lines between the words and the poet's segregation seems absurd.
There are no oceans in between us, there's no imagery to cross, sometimes the only thing that's left to do is talk.
Blood 'n' Sweat 'n' Tears
We're counting days and months and years just by our blood and sweat and tears and then we die, but at least we tried.
You know the lines on your face are just scars from running the rat race, it was all a lie, but at least you tried.
And now we're all grown up,
We never said we're going home,
And now we're all grown up,
We're just scared to be alone,
And now we're all grown up,
We never said we're going home.
And the times we held water that was thicker than blood,
Well it slips through your fingers like we knew it would.
Sometimes it takes a tragedy to figure out reality.
And now we're all grown up,
We never said we're going home,
And now we're all grown up,
We're just scared to be alone,
And now we're all grown up,
We never said we're going home.
I stay inside, I stay inside and watch all of this pass me by. I only get to make decisions out of the choices I'm given.
The lights. The sounds. They're all around. It's twists. I'm shot. It mirrors everything I'm not. It mirrors everything I'm not.
Is this livin'? Is this livin'? We're just taking what we're given.
Under The Lamp-post
And so they say, so they say “But you won’t understand the workings of this world with your head buried in the sand.”
And so I say “But there’s so much to do? And the graveness of the situation is shadowed by my ineptitude.”
There’s nothing like the moon to hide the sun, we’re forced to use the lamp-post to guide us home.
We thought we’d last forever, we were wrong. We walk home through the night time singing songs, ‘cause there’s no forever.
Trust the fact that everything is relative, trust the fact that nobody will ever say: 'fine.
The brain is all there is to the mind.' But life is not a waste of your time.
This is no lament, it’s suspension of belief, it’s analyzing everything to justify a means.
“KEEP GOD OUT OF FIRHOUSE.” was written down by my house.
Ten foot letters on a concrete wall. Did the priest mind? Well not at all.
If he has to pick and choose well then his ethics are his.
There’s nothing like your brain to spoil the fun, but you must keep living until you’re done.
This was all in effort to feel alive. If anybody sings this into the night. It’ll live forever.
Etch my name in a tree so passers-by are aware that I once lived a life without a care. A single set of footprints just to prove that I was there.
Well you’re lookin’ at me while I’m lookin’ at you. When will you realise, son, you’re singing to an empty room? |
